Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos are reportedly looking to sell OGC Nice due to the rules regarding multi-club ownership after buying into Manchester United.
Ratcliffe, 71, purchased a minority 27.7 per cent stake in his boyhood club last season after the Glazer family invited offers for the Red Devils. The British billionaire and his team are in control of sporting operations at Old Trafford as per the terms of the agreement and have already made significant off-field appointments.
Prior to his foray into the Premier League, Ratcliffe purchased Nice back in 2019. However, owning a stake in both the Ligue 1 outfit and Manchester United at the same time has caused complications with both clubs set to compete in next season's Europa League. While that is against UEFA rules, United and Nice have both been given the green light to compete, although a new report from The Independent outlines that the expectation is that such a move will only be permitted this season.
The report goes on to outline that Ratcliffe is now looking to sell Nice not only to avoid falling foul of any more rules related to multi-club ownership, but also to focus all of his efforts on United.
Unfortunately for Ratcliffe and Ineos, the current financial state of French football is hardly fertile grounds for selling a club. Ligue 1 are yet to secure a broadcasting partner for next season with forecasts falling from €1billion (£849m) to €500m (£424.5m) and there are concerns that formalising a new agreement will not be a swift process.
Premier League odds and betting tipsDespite those issues, Nice may still be seen as attractive proposition. This is partly due to their location on the tranquil south coast of France, according to the report.
Join the debate! Should Ratcliffe keep Ten Hag at Man Utd? Let us know here.
While Ratcliffe will have one eye on selling his stake in Nice, he has plenty to contend with at Old Trafford given the saga surrounding Erik ten Hag's future looks set to rumble on into a third week.
It was reported on the eve of Manchester United's FA Cup triumph a fortnight ago that the club's top brass had already decided to sack Ten Hag in the wake of their calamitous Premier League campaign - even if the Dutchman were to end a second successive with silverware.
An end of season review was conducted in the aftermath of United's triumph, but there is still no clarity over Ten Hag's future ahead of the weekend, with it looking likely that an update will instead be provided next week.
