At least a hundred cops, firefighters and volunteers are combing over mountainous terrain as they attempt to trace Mosley's final movements.

The mystery behind the BBC presenter's disappearance has continued to deepen after CCTV footage emerged of him walking quickly out of a village towards the rocky hills on Wednesday.

Cops revealed it helped to rule out the possibility the doctor had fallen into the water and shifted the search focus to a far wider and more dangerous 7km area.

Four gruelling days into the search, Symi's mayor questioned how anyone could survive in the scorching heat that has enveloped the island.

Dr Claire Bailey Mosley, who has now been joined by her four children, said today that the days since her husband went missing have been the "longest and most unbearable".

No trace of her husband has yet been found. A baffled rescuer today remarked "this is a small island...people just don't disappear."
