Rebel Wilson has broken her silence on Sacha Baron Cohen's divorce announcement amid taking aim at the British actor in her memoir.

Wilson also claimed she enjoyed a friendship with Cohen's ex Isla Fisher "before all this happened" thanks to working together on a film in 2012, and opened up about her current relationship with her fellow Australian actress.

Cohen and actress Fisher, 48, shocked fans in April thanks to revealing that they parted ways in 2023. The former couple, who tied the knot in 2010 and share three children together, shared the same picture as they revealed they jointly filed to divorce last year to their respective Instagram followers on 5th April.

The unexpected announcement came just days on from Wilson naming Cohen as the "ar**hole" Hollywood star she claims tried to stop her mentioning him in her then upcoming memoir. Rebel Rising, Wilson's autobiography, was released last month but with mentions of Cohen and her experience on a film set references to him redacted in copies on sale in the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia.

Fisher announcing her split from Cohen amid her ex-husband's public dispute with Wilson caused many to speculate regarding the timing of the mum-of-three's reveal, given she and Cohen had quietly broken up months previously and managed to keep their divorce private.

Speaking on Wednesday, Wilson said she doesn't think the claims she made in her memoir had anything to do with Cohen and Fisher's decision to split, but claimed "the timing wasn't great" for Cohen. The Bridesmaid actress commented the former couple's divorce could have been due to Cohen's "general treatment to women".

Cohen and Fisher both shared a snap of themselves posing together while wearing tennis whites as they broke the news of their divorce on their respective Instagram pages. Their joint statement read: "After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our rackets down. In 2023 we jointly filed to end our marriage. We have always prioritized our privacy, and have been quietly working through this change. We forever share in our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate our family’s wishes for privacy."

Wilson, who starred alongside Fisher in the movie Bachelorette, stated on the The Kyle and Jackie O Show that she doesn't think her book had anything to do with her former friend's split from Cohen. "I don’t feel like I’m the reason, but it might have just been his general treatment to women," the mum-of-one said.

The Pitch Perfect actress then revealed she has not spoken to Fisher since the mum-of-three's divorce announcement, saying: "I haven’t spoken to her. Obviously, I used to be friends with her before all this happened. We did a movie together called Bachelorette." The Mirror has approached representatives for Cohen and Fisher for comment on this story.

On 15th March, Wilson took to Instagram to share her new "no a holes policy," saying: "When I first came to Hollywood, people were like, yeah, 'I have a no a hole policy, means like, yeah, I don't work with a holes.' I was like, 'Oh yeah. I mean, that sounds sensible or logical.

"But then it really sunk in because I worked with a massive a hole and yeah, now I definitely have a no a holes policy." She also claimed in another post: "Now the a**hole is trying to threaten me. He's hired a crisis PR manager and lawyers. He's trying to stop press coming out about my new book. But the book WILL come out and you will all know the truth."

The drama escalated when Wilson named Cohen as the "asshole" in question on her Instagram Stories on 25th March, alongside an image of a notebook and pen, captioned: "I will not be bullied or silenced by high priced lawyers or PR crisis managers. The 'asshole' that I am talking about in ONE CHAPTER of my book is: Sacha Baron Cohen."

Following the accusation, a spokesperson for Cohen responded to the Mirror, stating: "While we appreciate the importance of speaking out, these demonstrably false claims are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage, and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production of The Brothers Grimsby."

Both Wilson and Baron Cohen were part of the 2016 spy action comedy film Grimsby. Despite its lukewarm reception, the movie, written by Baron Cohen, saw Wilson playing Dawn Grobham, the girlfriend of Baron Cohen's character Kyle Alan 'Nobby' Butcher, and mother to his 11 children.

The Australian star, aged 44, was asked to go fully nude for the film but chose to use a body double instead. "They wanted full-frontal nudity. We write in the contract, specifically, 'No nudity'", she confessed to Marie Claire in 2016. "They got in another girl - this larger burlesque dancer from South Africa - to be a nude double. And they got her to do all this stuff. Sacha would go, 'See, she looks good.' I'm like, I'm not doing it. I don't care what you say."
