The family of missing TV presenter Michael Mosley are "hoping for a good outcome" as searchers believe he took a disastrous wrong turn.

His brother Arthur said the presenter's three adult sons and one daughter flew out to Greece in an effort to help search for any trace of his whereabouts. Mosley's last known movements on the island of Symi are being retraced by police. Mosley was last seen in CCTV footage on the main road of the town Pedi at about 1.50pm on Wednesday afternoon, about 20 minutes after he is believed to have hiked a coastal route. There had been suspicion he might have fainted or fallen off a cliff during a walk.

"We are very shocked and perplexed by what has happened to him," his son Artur told The Telegraph. "We know as much as what the police and media has reported, but we are closely following the situation, and hope that there's a good outcome. Unfortunately, when you get to my age or his age, accidents like this can happen."

Mosley's wife Claire Bailey has been searching the Greek island and has been joined by her friends, according to Symi mayor Eleftherios Papakaloudoukas. While CCTV does show Mosley, his next movements are vague with one possible sighting being reported at the nearby Blue Corner cafe at 1.52pm that day.

Officials also received reports of a possible sighting that put Mosley heading toward a craggy path at the edge of Edi's small marina at 2pm. MailOnline reported it appeared instead of making a turn off downt eh main road, he might have mistakenly followed the route toward the sea. "Even a mountain goat wouldn't get up there," a senior police source told the outlet. One rescuer said any decision to follow the path would be "inexplicable."

She told MailOnline: "The path is not easy to follow, if he took a wrong turn, he would be lost. He could be anywhere. It is a race against time." Police have searched along the marina and it is feared Mosley might have "slipped, tripped, fallen," or even was bitten by a snake. When he vanished, Mosley was seen wearing a blue shirt and shorts with a purple umbrella resting on his shoulder. A police official later told the outlet: "He probably lost his way and ended up in this windy, uncharted path that links the two regions of Pedi and [Symi town] winding through a craggy mountain."
