It seems a lot of items have increased in price over the last few years.

However, ASOS shoppers are up in arms about the cost of the online retailer's latest products.

The item in question is a pair of black sandals, which come with a solid flat bottom and sheer top covered in beading.

The online store is selling the sandals for £42 a pop. However, many people online have claimed they have got similar shoes much cheaper at Primark or down their local market.

These used to be sold in Primark and every Market back in the day. ASOS is wild.

The shoes were brought to attention by a woman named Taylor, who shared a screenshot of them on X (formerly Twitter), as she exclaimed: "I can believe ASOS are selling these slippers for FOURTY TWO GREAT BRITISH POUNDS!!"

The post has since gone viral, racking up more than 232,000 views, as many agreed they were equally as shocked at the price.

One exclaimed: "These used to be sold in Primark and every Market back in the day. ASOS is wild." While another added: "East street Market would be three for £15." A third chimed in: "Nah I can’t believe that! The cheek. These slippers were like £9.99 back in the day." While a fourth insisted: "We’ll just go down to the market let’s be for real hahaha."

A fifth asked: "Is this a sick joke? I used to get these for a fiver." While someone else wrote: "I’m counting on Primark to hook me up with a cheaper pair."

Some even claimed that ASOS were "gentrifying" the sandals, while others couldn't believe they were back in fashion again.

The post comes after ASOS revealed a sales slump last month, despite trying to put turnaround efforts in place.

The UK's fast fashion retailers have had a tough couple of years, with pressure on household budgets and competition from global rivals such as Shein and Temu, as well as online marketplaces.

And ASOS has definitely been affected – with shares about 50% lower last month than they were at the same time last year.
