United's Ineos chiefs identified Thomas Tuchel as a potential replacement, with the German holding talks with Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Despite emerging as the Red Devils' No1 choice, Tuchel, as revealed by SunSport, decided that he does not want the gig - and has opted to take a break from management instead.

According to the Telegraph, United have held talks with the representatives of several other managers.

They claim that Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto De Zerbi and Thomas Frank have all been sounded out, either directly or through their agents, over the position.

Pochettino, 52, is a free agent having left Chelsea last month.

He has long been linked with United in the past, dating back to his time at Tottenham.

Despite being axed by the Blues his stock remains high, having been publicly backed by the likes of Cole Palmer.

According to the Telegraph, however, Pochettino will NOT become the next United boss, despite recent contact.

Gareth Southgate and Graham Potter have also been mentioned as possible replacements.

It's thought that a final decision over Ten Hag's future will come this week.

The Argentine coached the Rest of the World side during Soccer Aid.

He couldn't inspire his side to a win, however, as they fell 6-3 to England in West London.
