“I remember how much I wanted to hit 100 lids, and I was gutted when I didn’t get there in time.

“My three teenagers have eaten plenty too, but this is my collection. They know they can’t put their lids here.”

Finance worker Malcolm, of Accrington, Lancs, said a third are Bombay Badboys but his favourite was Posh Noodle, out briefly in 2003.

"Partner Liz, 44, was shocked to find them all in a cupboard after moving in.

She said: “I’ve probably tossed a few of the lids in the bin over the years, but that was before I knew he had a collection.

"Every man needs a hobby, and I’ll take this over a home brewery.”
