Disturbing CCTV captures the final movements of an "utterly defenceless" man who was stabbed to death by two 12-year-old boys.
Shawn Seesahai, 19, suffered at the hands of the violent children, who were today found guilty of murder - it is believed they have become the youngest people in the UK to do so since James Bulger's killers. They slashed Shawn's legs and plunged a blade through his heart, after "roaming the streets looking for a potential victim".
Shawn, who did not know his killers, was set upon by the youths in a park as he and a friend sat on a bench waiting to meet another pal. The teenager was punched, kicked and savagely knifed, and died at the scene on November 13, 2023. Police trawled CCTV and arrested the 12-year-old boys the next day and, upon searching a storage space under one of the youngsters' beds, officers recovered a machete.
The boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were today found guilty following a trial, during which they blamed each other for the random attack. The youths will be sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court at a later date. The convictions make the duo two of the youngest killers in British legal history.
Now CCTV, released by West Midlands Police, shows the victim's last moments as he and a friend leave a petrol station in Bilston at approximately 6.45pm on November 13. They are then seen around one hour later, walking down a residential street near the park where the horrific attack occurred.
Two New York cops stabbed during celebrations in Times SquareSpeaking after the conviction today, Jonathan Roe, senior crown prosecutor for CPS West Midlands, said: "Shawn Seesahai was an incredibly brave young man who had a world of opportunities at his feet. Shawn suffered traumatic injuries after being ruthlessly targeted by defendants who had a fixation with violence and were roaming the streets looking for a potential victim.
"This was a horrifying and random act of brutality, perpetrated by two 12-year-olds who should not have been spending their time arming themselves with a machete and preparing to take a life. Today's conviction should send a clear message to those who feel it appropriate to arm themselves with knives or blades - no matter how you may try to justify it, you will face the consequences of your actions. All of our thoughts remain with Shawn's family and friends at this difficult time."
Shawn had only been in the UK for six months when the stabbing happened. Shawn's parents and sister travelled from Anguilla to see justice done for their son and revealed how they had been left heartbroken by his death.
His mother, Maneshwary, said: "Shawn was such a loving son, he was so well-mannered, looked after us, was loving to everyone and very protective. He always said he wanted to work, he wanted his own house, his own car. He liked basketball and cricket, he loved those sports. He was always listening to music. He spent most of his time at home and didn't want to go out much."
His father, Suresh, said: "I will remember him every day, when I get home I see his pictures, his clothes, his sneakers, I will always remember him. Even at work, I work for myself and he works for me on weekends, when I would pack up my stuff he always helped me. Whenever I put anything in my truck now, he will be there with me helping me do it.
"I never had a problem with Shawn, he was such a loving son. He would be up at 5am to work, and whenever I paid him he always saved it. We are a very close family, we'll never forget him. Justice must be done. I want them to have the right sentence, they don't have to be locked up for life, I just want it to be fair. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we'll get the justice we've come here for."
