A series made by Dr Michael Mosley in which he explores the human body is on ice while a decision is taken over whether it can be shown, following his death.

The TV doctor, best known for his work on BBC2 and Channel 4, was about to make his debut on Channel 5 with three-part series Wonders of the Human Body. In it, he sets out to decode the human body, inviting viewers to see their bodies in new ways and understand how they work and change during the ageing process.

Always willing to test theories out himself the programmes, announced last autumn, see him put his own body to the test to track medical breakthroughs, including a new scan that claims to predict a heart-attack years in advance. He also underwent hypnosis and followed some pioneering brain surgery which aims to cure tremors.

Speaking in September, Michael said: “This was a fascinating series to make and I learned a lot about the workings of the human body in general, and my own in particular, which I am looking forward to sharing."The founder of TV indie Storyboard, Natalie Humphreys, said the aim was “to make the science of the human body relatable and appealing to a big broad audience. There’s so much we still don’t know and discoveries are being made all the time, so making this new series is exciting for us”.

Michael - a regular contributor to This Morning - has previously fronted many series and podcasts for the BBC, including BBC2’s Trust Me, I’m a Doctor. He has recently appeared on Channel 4 with Who Made Britain Fat? and The Secrets of the Big Shop. A spokeswoman for Channel 5 said it was “too early” to comment on whether Wonders of the Human Body would air as a tribute to the late health expert.

Yesterday pictures emerged of Michael and his wife Claire filming on the beach at Colwyn Bay, Wales, last month. They were in a group of six people including a camera crew. Michael was photographed paddling in the sea after filming with a camera crew on the nearby pier. The local who took the photographs said they asked the cameraman what they were filming and were told it was a TV series to air in September.
