Bruno Fernandes has shared his thoughts on Manchester United veteran Tom Heaton amid ongoing talks over a new deal.
The 38-year-old goalkeeper has been with the Red Devils since returning to Old Trafford in 2021. He joined from Aston Villa to provide support to the club’s goalkeeping department.
Heaton could leave this summer with his contract due to expire. Man United have confirmed that talks are ongoing regarding a new deal.
In the meantime, Heaton is set to join up with the England squad for this summer’s Euros in Germany. He will play no part in matches but will participate in training.
Taking to Instagram after the announcement was made, he wrote: “Incredibly honoured to be asked by Gareth to join the squad. To get the call to go to a major tournament, to help in anyway I can and pass on my experience is a proud moment. We have a great squad, I’m excited and can’t wait to join the group.”

Fernandes was not the only Red Devil to send Heaton a message of congratulations. Diogo Dalot and Altay Bayindir also reacted, while outgoing coach Benni McCarthy also had kind words.
Explaining why Heaton has joined up with the England squad, Gareth Southgate said: “I am really pleased Tom has agreed to join us in Germany.

“Experience tells us that a tournament can put a lot of demand on our goalkeeping group led by Martyn Margetson. Tom will play an invaluable role on the training pitch supporting Jordan [Pickford], Aaron [Ramsdale] and Dean [Henderson].
“Off the field as someone we all know well, he will add to the positive environment we are always looking to create. We are grateful to Manchester United for their support in making this happen.”
Heaton earned three caps for the Three Lions earlier in his career. He made his debut in a pre-Euro 2016 friendly against Australia.
He also played against Spain and France - the latter of which being the only start he made for his country. Heaton’s most recent club appearance came for Man United during a 2-0 Carabao Cup semi-final victory against Nottingham Forest during the 2022/23 campaign.
