Ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Adam Bogdan has admitted to being dumbfounded when he first learned about their interest.

Back in the summer of 2015, the Reds snapped up the Hungarian shot stopper on a free from Bolton Wanderers. At the time, Bogdan had been second choice for the Championship side, who had finished 18th in the second tier.

While there was interest in the Hungarian's services from other clubs in Europe, the now 36-year-old did not know what the future held for him in football. That was until he received a phone call from his agent, saying Brendan Rodgers was interested.

Despite only featuring six times for the Reds during his first season, before he was loaned out to Wigan Athletic and Hibernian, Bogdan holds his stint at Liverpool in high regard.

Chatting exclusively with Ladbrokes Fanzone, Bogdan opened up on how his move to Anfield came to fruition. He said: "As we were crossing the border, I got a call from my agent.

"He told me that it looked like Liverpool were going to be making contact. It was unbelievable for me. I was so happy, I was so proud, and so excited.

"All of these emotions, it was so huge. I wasn't afraid, or anything like that; I was ready for it. I knew the standard was going to be higher, but I was ready. It's something I was really proud of."

Games were had to come by for Bogdan, who was stuck behind then Liverpool No.1 goalkeeper Simon Mignolet. He only made two Premier League appearances, but he did experience the high of saving three spot-kicks in a penalty shootout victory against Carlisle United in the third round of the League Cup.

While Bogdan is not afraid to admit he was surprised by the six-time European champions' interest in him, he thinks he can identify the moment he convinced them he was back-up material, reports the Liverpool Echo.

"I played in an FA Cup game in the January, and it was probably one of the best games I had for the club (Bolton)... not just in terms of saves, but psychology," he said.

"I felt completely focused and balanced, playing at Anfield. And I think that must have been picked up, or I must have left some sort of impression on the people at Liverpool.

"I don't think it was anything more than that, but later on that year, obviously Brad Jones left the club, which meant the spot for second-choice was open at the club. I think they wanted somebody with experience in England, which obviously I had."
