Katie Piper has been supported by fans after she was forced to pull out of her TV show for a second week in a row.

The presenter, 40, suffered an adverse reaction to an eye operation and revealed last week that she'd undergone an “unexpected medical procedure”. She was replaced by Charlotte Hawkins on her ITV weekend breakfast show. Katie, who was left with serious injuries and permanent scarring after an acid attack in 2008, is also not well enough to return this week as Charlotte steps in again.

A source told the Mirror : “Katie had quite a bad reaction to this operation, which has left her feeling really poorly. Much as she’d love to be back on the sofa on Saturday, at the moment it’s just not realistic and she acknowledges this. She is concentrating on her recovery so that she can be back to her best as soon as possible. ITV have been really understanding and have said to her that she should take all the time she needs before coming back.”

Katie also shared the news on her Instagram as she said: "I’ll be back soon thank you @charlottehawkins1 for stepping in last minute." Fans and showbiz pals rushed to support the star as Gaby Roslin commented: "Sending you lots of love and healing energy beautiful girl." Andi Oliver wrote: "Big love to you dear woman xx love and light xx."

Katie has had hundreds of surgeries to repair damage to her face and eyesight, following the attack on the orders of her ex boyfriend - which took place when she was 24.

The TV star regularly presents her weekend morning chat show on ITV1, which runs on Saturday and Sunday, and first aired in 2022. It has featured guest stars including Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing and Celebs Go Dating's Anna Williamson. Katie was set to welcome stand-up comedian Sophie Duker and Livi Sheldon and Radio 1 film critic Rhianna Dhillon to the studio.

Katie updated fans earlier this year on her recovery after undergoing surgery to avoid losing her left eye. The presenter opened up about her tarsorrhaphy surgery, telling fans the procedures had been "mentally hard". The mum-of-two has undergone more than 400 surgeries in a bid to reconstruct her face.

She told her followers: "I've got a defect and an infection that is becoming really hard to treat. I have to give a shout out to my lovely husband, he's always there for me, always driving. He's spent a lot of time in hospital waiting rooms, eye clinic waiting rooms, wards, and he sits in a lot of car parks waiting for me. Also, if this helps anyone else…. yes I do sometimes find it hard. I’m ok with looking different to everyone else but operations can sometimes take me back to memories of how this all started and that’s hard mentally."
