London commuters face disruption as Elizabeth Line suffers major delays

Workers travelling into London this morning are facing severe delays after a signalling fault on a major commuter line.

The Elizabeth Line, which connects Reading in Berkshire to central London,is facing severe and minor delays after a signal failure in the Twyford area.

Transport for London has said this means there are severe delays between Maidenhead and Reading and minor delays between Maidenhead and Paddington, while the rest of the line has good service.

In a statement, National Rail said on its website: ‘Some lines have now reopened following a fault with the signalling system in the Twyford area. Trains running between London Paddington and Heathrow Terminals / Reading may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes or revised.

‘Disruption is expected until 13:00.’

Outlining the routes afffected, they added: ‘Elizabeth line between Abbey Wood and Heathrow Terminal 4 / Maidenhead / Reading, betwen Gidea Park / Stratford / London Paddington and Heathrow Terminal 4, and also between Shenfield / Abbey Wood / London Paddington and Heathrow Terminal 5

‘Great Western Railway between London Paddington and Reading / Didcot Parkway / Oxford / Cheltenham Spa / Cardiff Central / Swansea / Carmarthen / Newbury / Bedwyn / Frome / Weston-super-Mare / Exeter St Davids / Taunton / Plymouth / Penzance, between West Ealing and Greenford, and also between Maidenhead and Marlow

‘Heathrow Express between London Paddington and Heathrow Terminal 5.’
