Matty Healy appears to have put his romance with Taylor Swift firmly behind him.
The 1975 frontman, 34, has seemingly proposed to his new girlfriend, Gabbriette Bechtel, 26, who took to social media to show off her huge diamond ring last night. Alongside a snap of the bling on her left hand, Gabbriette posted: "Marrying The 1975 is very brat @trumanblack", which Matty shared to his own account.
Matty found love with Gabbriette, who is the lead singer of punk rock band Nasty Cherry, last September following his fling with pop sensation Taylor. The pop icon, 34, is also enjoying a high-profile relationship with Kansas City Chiefs' Travis Kelce, after opening up about her toxic romance with Matty in her latest album.
Many fans suspected Taylor's latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, would focus heavily on her relationship with ex-boyfriend of six years, Joe Alwyn, but it appeared many of the tracks hint at her short-lived romance with Matty. Taylor dated Matty - who's mum is Denise Welch and dad Tim Healy - in May through to the beginning of June last year after first being linked nearly 10 years earlier.
Although their romance was short-lived, rumours of a relationship between the pair began back in 2014 after she attended one of his band's shows and he later admitted to exchanging numbers with the US star. The singers were then photographed together with Ellie Goulding and Nick Grimshaw at the Universal Music Brits party in February 2015, further fuelling rumours.
Taylor Swift's next studio album revealed after tenth release broke recordsMatty denied any romance by saying it would be "emasculating" to date Taylor in 2016 before later clarifying that he has "a lot of respect and admiration for her" after a backlash. In November 2022, it was revealed they collaborated for a track on her Midnights record but the song didn't make the cut.
Fast-forward to January 2023 and Taylor performed Anti-Hero live for the first time during a surprise appearance at The 1975's show in London. In May 2023, less than a month after the news broke of Taylor and Joe's split, it was reported the singer had moved on with the 1975 star.
Taylor's fans were shocked by the romance but it appeared the singers were crazy about each other. Matty flew from the Philippines to watch his new lover perform in Nashville two days after the reports of their romance broke. Later that month, Taylor and Matty were photographed holding hands while out to dinner in NYC, with an eyewitness claiming they were "cuddling and kissing".
Fans later speculated that the singers exchanged romantic messages while onstage after they were both captured mouthing the same loving phrase at their respective shows one night apart. Swifties were divided over her romance with the frontman, who has been at the centre of numerous controversies over the years - most notably an incident with Ice Spice, a friend of Taylor's.
Matty was seen with Taylor's dad at one of her concerts and sources claimed they were "inseparable". But in June 2023, their romance fizzled out with a source telling ET that they weren't "really compatible with each other". Taylor appeared to shine a light on why they didn't work out with a series of cryptic lyrics in her latest album.
In But Daddy I Love Him, she seemed to criticise fans for "sanctimonious" critiques of their relationship while The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived suggested she was ghosted by the singer. "Was any of it true? Gazing at me starry-eyed in your Jehovah's Witness suit," she sang. "Who the f**k was that guy? You tried to buy some pills from a friend of friends of mine. They just ghosted you. Now you know what it feels like."
Matty is famous for performing on stage in a suit and has previously opened up on his own battles with substance abuse. In other songs, such as I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can), Taylor slammed the "revolting" jokes of the man she loves and in loml, she reflected on rekindling a past romance that fell apart as quickly as it resumed.
A close friend of Matty told US Weekly earlier this week that the singer still has "mixed feelings" about the album. The source reportedly said: "He loves the attention it's brought to him, [but] he also thinks it's hilarious because at no time [were they] ever serious." They added that Matty was "blindsided" that Taylor's lyrics made their relationship out to be rock solid.
