Dreading the unbearable smell when throwing out your bin?

A cheap £3 hack has now been uncovered that could make disposing of rubbish a slightly less unpleasant task. The 'quick and easy solution' was shared by a TikTok user named Purdyandfigg, who guarantees to freshen up your bins using felt sticky pads drenched in aromatic essential oils and then stuck on your disposal unit.

The hack allows you to select any scent that suits your fancy whether calming lemongrass, refreshing eucalyptus or robust tea tree, and it won't break your bank balance. These sticky pads can be bought off Amazon or at DIY outlets for just marginally over £1. Following this, apply a dab of your preferred essential oils, with the entire cost expected to be under £3, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Social media is abuzz with praise for this household tip. Several have added that taking out the waste at regular intervals prevents foul smells from accumulating, as one person chimed in: "Good idea. And take the trash out regularly." On a similar note, we recently ran another story about a "game-changing" trick to facilitate bin-related chores and lessen repeated ventures outdoors.

Remember, there's a proper etiquette to follow when it comes to wheelie bins. Only put your bin out on the day of collection, not days in advance. Once it's been emptied, promptly bring it back in. Also, ensure it doesn't block driveways, bus stops, cycle lanes or pavements.

A representative from Garden Buildings Direct warned that if your wheelie bin placement is or could become a nuisance, you might be slapped with a fine up to £80.
