Gemma Atkinson isn't happy her relationship with Gorka Márquez could be the target of more rumours of the "Strictly Come Dancing curse" coming into effect.
While the professional dancer is due to reprise his role on the BBC One dancefloor later this year, with a mystery partner who is yet to be announced, the Hollyoaks and Casualty actress opened up about the infamous 'curse', coined by fans and stars of the program after some big names on the show found love with their professional partners, despite some already being involved with someone else off-screen.
The "Strictly curse", as it was dubbed, has made multiple 'victims' throughout the years, sending the rumour mill into overdrive but viewers have been warned ahead of this year's edition of the show. Gemma Atkinson heavily disapproves with the term and everything it stands for.

The actress and radio presenter is engaged Gorka Márquez, with whom she shares two children (Daily Mirror)During a recent chat with Woman Magazine, the 39-year-old deemed that the "curse" was "quite offensive" to her other half in particular as she said: "it's quite offensive - not to me, but to Gorka and his celebrity partner, or to anyone on the show. You are more or less saying to them 'are you going to cheat on your partner this year then?'"
She then firmly argued: "If I walked into an office and asked that, everyone would be like 'why would I do that? But because it's a TV show we are asked every year 'Is this the year he will cheat?' Nobody says to Gorka 'is there a Strictly curse at home?'."

However, when she tried to her luck in the competition herself in 2017, the Hits Radio presenter couldn't help but fall in love with Gorka. As fans will know, the couple first locked eyes on the set of the competition but were never partnered up. While Gemma showed off her moves on the arm of Aljaž Škorjanec, Gorka strutted alongside Alexandra Burke.
Despite not being paired together, sparks flew between them behind the scenes, igniting the wildest romance rumours. Although they denied the gossip at the time, maintaining they were just good friends, the duo had spent New Year's Eve together at the gym.
But it wasn't until February, 2018, after spending more time together while touring the UK on the Strictly tour, that the pair confirmed they were an item.
Gemma and Gorka have been inseparable ever since. In February, 2019, the actress announced on her Instagram account that she was expecting her first baby with the Latin and ballroom dancer, giving birth to a girl named Mia on July 4 that same year.
Gorka popped the question two years later, but they delayed their wedding twice in three years in an attempt to make sure that all family members can take part in the ceremony - including their second child, Thiago, born on July 19, 2023.
