Love them or hate them, many of us have to hop on a train to travel pretty regularly.
But while we think we know all there is to know about public transport, it turns out there are some hidden hacks many of us don't know about. Recently people have made a discovery about a switch found on trains few people seem to know how to use.
An internet user posted a snap of the switch on Reddit which has since gone viral. People can't believe they've never realised what the switch below the armrest of the seats actually does.
Sharing a snap of the contraption, one social media fan asked: "Does anyone know what this switch is for?"
There may have been many bonkers theories, but the one most people seem to agree on has surprised people. It turns out you really do learn something new every day.
'My wife wants to change our four-year-old's name but I think it is too late'One social media user said: "They took the reading lights out when they did a refit with their new branding, but left the switch in."
Another one agreed, stating: "Reading lights. In all but one of the trains that I have been on, the bulbs have been blown. Look above you in the air-con vents and you will see the sockets."
Another chimed in: "Tbf if I were GWR taking reading lights out I would probably not bother removing a discrete switch." But while there were a number of viable explanations, others couldn't help but make jokes.
One person quipped: "It changes the fragrance of the air freshener in the driver's cab." Another chimed in with: "If you flick it the correct number of times it checks who in the carriage has their feet on the seats, and activates the spike."
A third couldn't resist another joke, adding: "It's for exterminating anyone who uses a speakerphone on public transport."
Meanwhile, one more thought there was only one way to get to the bottom of the mystery. They added: "Press it and see what happens."
