Former world champion Johnny Nelson believes Tyson Fury will retire rather than fight Oleksandr Usyk again.

Fury was outpointed by Usyk last month in the rivals' undisputed heavyweight world title fight in Saudi Arabia. The Brit suffered his first professional defeat having dominated the first half of the fight before Usyk turned the tide. Fury has barely been heard from since the final bell and was filmed being escorted out of a bar last weekend by security.

The footage also showed the former world champion hitting the deck once he was outside. Fans now fear Fury is struggling to come to terms with losing to Usyk and fear her won't go through with their contracted rematch on December 21.

And Nelson told Seconds Out : "I think the realisation of what’s happened to him, will kick in slowly but surely. I don’t believe Tyson Fury will fight Oleksandr Usyk next or again. He [Fury] either packs it in or Usyk retires or moves down [to cruiserweight].

"I don’t think he’ll get in with Usyk again, I think he’ll retire because of the fashion of his defeat, and he’ll just be struggling to deal with it. Maybe his legs aren’t gone, but he’s not the fighter he was. His last fight and his fight before that [ Francis Ngannou ] told us that. Maybe it’s that time."

Nelson also claimed Fury has not been at his best since his first fight with Deontay Wilder in 2018 which ended in a controversial draw after Fury twice climbed off the canvas. “When you’re that successful financially and gotten to the top, unless you really love it and you’re prepared to rough it out and get back there again, why would you listen to anybody that you think is a lesser man than you to tell you what to do?," he added.

"His first fight against Deontay Wilder was his last stellar performance. Tyson Fury may train right, but I feel the last time we saw the best of him was his first fight against Wilder."
