Angel Strawbridge has opened up about her struggle to find love before meeting her husband Dick Strawbridge – and a very cheeky comment she made to him.

The 46-year-old star of Channel 4 show Escape To The Chateau revealed that she prioritised her career over romance until she met Dick, 64, in her 30s back in 2010. From the tender age of 13, Angel had a good eye for bargains at car boot sales which eventually led to her opening up her own vintage stall at Spitalfields market.

She later founded her The Vintage Patisserie company, which won investment on Dragons' Den in 2010. Speaking on Elizabeth Day's How To Fail' podcast about life away from her career, the mother-of-two admitted that she often felt like a failure when it came to still being single at 25, but also had no desire to get married and was solely focused on being successful.

"I was too busy to (find love)," she said. "I genuinely never met somebody who I knew was the one and I just had a busy life. And I just thought well if you're really the one, I haven't got time."

Fast forward to 2010, and the businesswoman not only found success on Dragons' Den but also met her future husband Dick, who is 18 years her senior. Their paths first crossed at a party hosted by a mutual friend but got to know each other properly via Celebrity Masterchef six weeks later, reports the Express.

She reminisced about their initial meaningful conversation with Elizabeth, saying: "We just sat and talked after him cooking for this huge big party of guests. Everyone wanted to talk to Dick, to congratulate him and talk about the food and he just came and sat next to me and we just talked all night."

She couldn't help but praise Dick's zest for life, adding: "He's so passionate about life, about everything. He's a story teller and he's got a certain energy."

"He's got this aura about him of authority that makes my hairs go on end; he's a very strong, powerful man, that is very kind as well and he'll do anything for anyone," she continued.

Two years after they met, Angel playfully marked an "impregnate me" date in the calendar as a hint to Dick. Her dream of having one boy and one girl came true when she welcomed Arthur, now 11, and Dorothy, 10, who both appeared on the show.

Dick was previously married to engineer Brigit Weiner for 28 years, with whom he has two adult children.

In 2020, speaking to Fabulous Magazine about their age difference, Angel declared it "didn't matter" to her, confessing it was "love at first sight".

"Age is but a number, and Dick's always had a really wonderful energy and he's a doer," she added.
