Meghan Markle could have sent a subtle message to the Royal Family with a piece of jewellery once worn by Princess Diana, according to a style expert.
The Duchess of Sussex opted to wear a sentimental necklace on May 11 during a reception for military families in Abuja, Nigeria. The jewel was once worn by Princess Diana. The necklace consisted of a delicate diamond cross on a gold chain and is thought to have been a gift from husband Prince Harry to the former Suits star.
Now, according to an expert, Meghan's reason for wearing such an item could have been made clear.

Speaking to GB News, jewellery expert James Harris explained the sentimental meaning behind the accessory. He said Meghan's choice to wear it during the couple’s three-day trip to Nigeria didn’t go unnoticed.
Meghan Markle 'to unleash her own memoirs' as Prince Harry's drops next week"The cross pendant, while beautiful in its craftsmanship, could have carried a deeper significance," he claimed. "Traditionally, a cross pendant symbolises faith, hope, and protection. For many, it represents a connection to one's spiritual beliefs and a reminder of resilience and strength in times of adversity."
The Regional Sales Manager at Austen & Blake continued: "In Meghan’s case, the cross might also be seen as a symbol of unity and peace, reflecting her commitment to humanitarian efforts and her dedication to fostering understanding across cultures."
It's said the symbol of "unity and peace" could have been a subtle message to her strained relationship with the Royal Family. Meghan has not visited the UK since 2022 when she attended the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
Any nod to Diana would sure to be welcomed by the Duke of Sussex. Harry often speaks fondly of his memories of his mother. He was only 12 when she tragically died in 1997.
In his memoir, Spare, Harry opened up on how he misses his mother every day. Describing his feelings that followed years after her passing, Harry candidly shared: "How was it possible that I could see her, clear as the swan skimming towards me on that indigo lake? How could I hear her laughter, loud as the songbirds in the bare trees—still? There was so much I didn’t remember, because I was so young when she died, but the greater miracle was all that I did."
He went on to reiterate just how much her love for her boys, Harry and Prince William, was mirrored by the pair.
