As England's players prepare for their Euro 2024 opener against Serbia, Harry Maguire has been in Turkey at the five-star Maxx Royal Belek resort.

Manchester United centre-back Maguire lost his battle to make the squad after an injury-hit club season. He was named in Gareth Southgate's 33-man preliminary group, but there was no place for him in the final 26 who have travelled to Germany.

Maguire featured in every England game in each of the last two World Cups and played five times at Euro 2020 after missing the start of the tournament through injury. He missed the last month of the domestic season, though, and has not recovered in time to play a part.

He has jetted off for Antalya, on Turkey's Mediterranean coast, to wind down at the luxury resort, which sets guests back a pretty penny. A week's stay in the Maxx Royal Belek's deluxe accommodation costs up to £6,400 per night, though cheaper suites can become available for less than £1,000.

Maxx Royal Belek offers guests a range of different types of accommodation, from individual suites to detached villas on the premises. Villas include a private pool and terrace, while there's also a golf course and a range of restaurants with Michelin-starred chef Alfredo Russo offering a fine dining option.

Maguire has been pictured winding down at the resort. He was snapped on a sun lounger and pictured drinking a beer by the pool, while one source told The Mail the former Leicester City defender appeared relaxed while spending time with family at the resort,

With Maguire failing to recover from injury, England's centre-back options are limited for their Euros opener against Serbia. John Stones and Marc Guehi started the final warm-up game against Iceland, though Stones has been ill in the days since.

"I am devastated not to have been selected to play for England at the Euros this summer," Maguire said after his absence was confirmed. "Despite my best efforts, I have not been able to overcome an injury to my calf. Maybe I pushed myself too hard, to try and make it.

"Simply, I am absolutely gutted. For me, representing England is the highest honour. It means everything to me. If I can’t help the team as a player, I will support them as a fan – along with the rest of the country. Go and win it boys. Next, I will return to the supervision of the Manchester United medical team in order to prepare for next season."

Harry Kane and Declan Rice were among the England players to reach out to Maguire in the light of the setback. The 31-year-old hasn't missed a competitive England game of any kind since 2021, when he sat out a pair of World Cup qualifiers, while the last game he missed in a tournament proper was the goalless draw with Scotland at Euro 2020.

“Harry Maguire’s consistently been one of our main first contact from set-plays but we have got other options within that, but we have got other opportunities to be creative in our set-plays as well," manager Southgate said, addressing a potential issue in Germany. "But some smaller players can cope really well and mark really well. You saw Kobbie Mainoo doing a pretty good job from corners for Manchester United in the FA Cup final for example."

England begin their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday evening. Their second group game is against Denmark, with their third against Slovenia.
