Raphael Varane and Casemiro were ‘dissenting voices’ opposing Erik ten Hag ’s methods at Manchester United before Sir Jim Ratcliffe decided to stick with the manager.
The Dutchman faced an uncertain future at the club following a dire second campaign at Old Trafford. But Ratcliffe has opted to stick with Ten Hag following a post-season review.
He is now in talks regarding a new contract with the Red Devils. However, that decision might not go down well with a couple of Man United stars.
According to The Athletic, former Real Madrid duo Varane and Casemiro were not particularly convinced by Ten Hag’s ethos. It is reported that the pair spoke to teammates about the methods employed by Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane in Spain.
They claimed that they were given more freedom and ‘workload agency’ with Real Madrid, while Ten Hag’s positional style was not appreciated. The pair were told that Man United were a completely different club to the Spanish champions.

LaLiga was also labelled as a slower-paced competition with less strength in depth so the same methods would not translate. Despite that, both Casemiro and Varane remained vocal and at times ‘dissenting voices’.
The news comes after Ten Hag was forced deny a rift with the French centre-back last season. Speaking in November, he said: "Rapha Varane? I don't know what you're talking about. It's rumours. Very important player, but there's internal competition and there should be at a top club, as we are."

Since then, it has been confirmed that Varane is due to leave Old Trafford at the end of his contract. He penned an emotional farewell to the club ahead of making his final Red Devils appearance in the FA Cup final.
"To you guys, supporters of Manchester United, it's been an amazing few years to play for this special club and wear that shirt," Varane said. "The first time I went to Old Trafford as a Man United player was insane, the atmosphere was amazing.
"I fell in love with the club, with the fans. You have to play for Man United to understand what that represents. For my kids, it's home here. It's going to be a special place for me, for life.
"When the fans went to Wembley [last season], it's something they will remember for life. To share that moment with them was absolutely amazing.
"Despite the fact we had a difficult season, I'm very positive for the future. The new owners are coming with a clear plan and a great strategy.
"I'll see you at Old Trafford to say goodbye for the last game at home this season and it's going to be very emotional day for me, for sure."
