Ian Wright has paid tribute to Kevin Campbell after his former Arsenal teammate died aged 54.

Ex-striker Campbell, who played a role in the Gunners' double-winning 1992-93 campaign, also starred for Everton, Nottingham Forest, West Brom and Cardiff. Arsenal confirmed on Saturday morning that the boyhood Gunners supporter had died after a short battle with illness, having recently been admitted to hospital.

"We are devastated to learn that our former striker Kevin Campbell has died after a short illness," the Premier League giants confirmed. "Kevin was adored by everyone at the club. All of us are thinking of his friends and family at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Kevin." Following the announcement, former team-mate Wright paid tribute. The ex- England international posted a series of crying emojis before sharing four pictures of himself and Campbell on social media platform X.

Everton also paid tribute with a post which read: "Everyone at Everton is deeply saddened by the death of our former striker Kevin Campbell at the age of just 54. Not just a true Goodison Park hero and icon of the English game, but an incredible person as well - as anyone who ever met him will know. RIP, Super Kev."

Campbell retired in 2007 after a spell with Cardiff, who said: "All of us at Cardiff City are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former striker, Kevin Campbell. The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with Kevin's friends and family at this incredibly difficult time. Rest in peace, Kevin."

Arsenal legend Tony Adams posted: "Super Kev: a goal machine, a giant of a man, with an even bigger heart. An intensely private and a truly wonderful human being. I’m devastated for his loved ones, and all of us. Love you Super Kev, Skipper."

Having moved into punditry, Campbell has been a regular on Sky Sports in recently years. Ex-goalkeeper Mark Crossley, who played alongside Campbell for Forest, wrote: "Life can be so cruel at times. "Absolutely devastated with news of my ex forest team mate Kevin Campbell's passing, a true gentleman, a great player, a shining light of a dressing room, fun loving guy, thoughts are with all his family and friends RIP mate."

Another former Forest team-mate, Alan Rogers, said: "Actually can't believe the news about my former team mate Kevin Campbell. So young too. Super Kev was not just a great footballer but was a great lad to. RIP super Kev." Meanwhile, ex-Everton forward Tony Cottee posted: "I am so devastated to hear the news of the passing of Kevin Campbell The nicest man you could wish to meet and a fantastic player. Thoughts to his friends and family…. RIP Kev." Arsenal fan Piers Morgan also paid tribute, saying: "What incredibly sad news. Top player, and a great guy. RIP."
