Piers Morgan says he's embarrassed for Tottenham and feels sorry for Ange Postecoglou after he confronted a Spurs fan who allegedly told him to lose to Manchester City.

Morgan was one of thousands of Arsenal fans hoping their north London rivals would claim a point from Pep Guardiola's side to give them the advantage in the Premier League title race. Despite Tottenham needing a win to keep their Champions League qualification hopes alive, many Spurs fans celebrated Erling Haaland's two goals as they knew it would help derail Arsenal's title hopes.

During the match, Postecoglou was seen confronting a Tottenham fan behind his dugout. And the Australian was furious after the game, blasting problems "inside and outside" the club and also saying the subdued atmosphere affected his players.

When asked about Postecoglou's confrontation and his post-match comments, former Britain's Got Talent judge Morgan admitted he has sympathy for the Australian.

"I feel sorry for Ange Postecoglou," Morgan said on TalkSPORT. "This guy is Australian. They don't understand what it's like to want to lose something. They're in the middle of a massive game, where Tottenham could qualify for the Champions League, which could lead to them getting better players. But no, there was a guy behind him chanting at him to throw the match.

"Eventually, he turned round and had a go at him. How can any Tottenham fan live with themselves seeing that scene go down last night? I’m annoyed but also ashamed more than usual of Tottenham fans.”

Spurs only need to claim a point against Sheffield United to ensure they have a place in the Europa League next season. If Chelsea and Newcastle win their final two matches and Chris Wilder's already relegated Blades beat them at Bramall Lane, then Spurs could finish as low as 7th.

Meanwhile, Arsenal's title hopes are now in the hands of West Ham. As well as beating Everton on the final day of the season, the north Londoners will need David Moyes' side to claim at least a point at the Etihad Stadium. Considering Morgan's mood after City's victory over Spurs, he does not have much hope. "It's a tiny club mentality," he blasted.

"They were actually dancing in celebration as City scored against them. Wearing City shirts and jumping around because that’s the nearest they’ll ever going to get to winning anything.

"It was the most humiliating, self-harming act of treachery I’ve ever watched. I’ve woken up this morning knowing what it feels like to be a Spurs fan for a day – it is horrible.

"I’ve woken up with a massive headache, I’ve hardly had any sleep, I drank too much and I had a sense of self-loathing that only disappeared when I remembered I’m an Arsenal fan.”
