Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding anniversary celebrations will be low-key but could bring an opportunity to mend their relationship with the Royal Family, according to an insider.

As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex gear up to mark six years since they tied the knot, they are set to celebrate the occasion with a very romantic, but rather low-key, evening. The duo - who thrilled the nation with their fairytale wedding on 19th May 2018 - are likely to mark the anniversary “behind closed doors”, says a royal insider who has also suggested that the date brings an opportunity for the Royal family to extend an olive branch and mend old wounds.

Harry and Meghan shocked the world when they stepped down from royal duties and moved to America in 2020. Things have been pretty rocky between the duo and the rest of the Firm ever since, with the Sussexes sharing unflattering behind-the-scenes details about the Royal Family in a documentary, memoir, and tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Former Royal butler Grant Harrold - who previously worked for King Charles for seven years - has predicted the Sussexes will mark the occasion in private. Speaking to Fruity Slots, he explained: “Celebrations will probably be behind closed doors, maybe a dinner party with some friends or maybe just the two of them. Maybe they’ll recreate that roast chicken dinner they had on the night they got engaged at their cottage in Windsor.”

Grant - who attended the stunning 2019 wedding - also revealed that Harry has “always worn his heart on his sleeve”. He added: “Prince Harry was always very romantic. When he used to go on dates, he was very sweet and kind, a true gentleman. Harry is very traditional and very romantic at heart.”

The anniversary will bring an opportunity for the Royal family to patch things up with the Sussexes, according to the former butler. Grant explained: “Typically, the Royal family do acknowledge wedding anniversaries, we usually see social media posts so it’ll be interesting to see if that happens this year. If they don’t, once again it goes to show the ongoing division. If it does happen, then I see that as an olive branch.”
