Meghan Markle proved she is a woman of her word while she and Prince Harry wrapped up their whistlestop Nigeria tour.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their way back to Los Angeles yesterday, after spending a jam-packed 72 hours in the West African nation. Just before the duo - who have recently become embroiled in a charity scandal - departed, a Nigerian official had an important message for Prince Harry, while Meghan was keen to prove she always keeps her promises.

While co-hosting at a female leadership event last weekend, 42-year-old Meghan - who recently found out she is 43 per cent Nigerian - vowed she would make more of an effort to “fit in”. Describing the “whirlwind” trip, she said: “I very quickly got the memo that I need to wear more colour, so I can fit in with all of you and your incredible fashion."

As she arrived in Lagos on Monday, the former Suits actress stuck to her word, opting for a flowing bright yellow dress as she and Prince Harry headed to a private meeting with the Governor of Lagos State at his home. When she left the formal engagement, Meghan was spotted with another vibrant addition to her look. As she posed in front of the Marina State House, the Duchess wore a stunning green shawl which had reportedly been gifted to her by the Governor’s wife.

While the couple spoke with Governor Babjide Sanwo-Olu about the Invictus Games and mental health awareness, the Nigerian official took the opportunity to give an important message to the Duke of Sussex. During a speech following the engagement, Governor Sanwo-Olu said: “For Prince Harry, this has been a very interesting and very informative trip to the country. He has seen a lot and is still soaking in a whole lot.”

The Governor then outlined what he hoped they would take away from their visit to his country. He said: “One of the things we are hoping he will take away is he sees the diversity and the extent of how big our country is and how we continue to ensure that we live together in peace and harmony."

Keen to express how thrilled he was about the visit, the Governor added: "On behalf of all of us in Lagos we are excited, we are happy to have you with us this afternoon."
