A holiday rep allegedly attacked by Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner said his eyes “bored in my skull” as he brutally raped her.
Hazel Behan, 40, was working in an Algarve resort when she was attacked by a intruder inside her apartment in June 2004. Her rapist was dressed in a pair of black tights, black leotard and mask with only his eyes exposed, she said.
At the end of her evidence, and with Brueckner sitting just feet away from her, she said: “I believe this man is the attacker.”
Hazel earlier told the court she will never forget his blue eyes - and said she is certain Brueckner was the attacker. She described him as “very aggressive and hateful”.
“I knew his eyes, I know his eyes,” she said. “I see blue eyes every day. My son has blue eyes. I know the difference When you spend time in that situation and there is nothing else you can see of this human other than their eyes, it’s the only thing to remember.

Everything else he had on was so dark, so it was like his eyes were lights. I just know them. He was very aggressive and hateful. He really didn’t like me. He was in control, he was in charge.”
Hazel previously told Braunschweig regional court how she recognised Brueckner when she saw a photo of him years later. The mum-of-three alerted Scotland Yard in 2020 after he was named as the prime suspect in Madeleine’s 2007 disappearance.
She noticed chilling similarities between the attack on her in Praia da Rocha and a rape he carried out in nearby Praia da Luz in 2005. And she said she vomited when she saw media coverage of the case and recognised his “piercing” blue eyes.
Hazel, of Mullingar, Ireland, told the court how she was raped after finishing her late shift as a rep for a hotel. She fled her apartment wearing only a towel after the attack and was later interviewed by Portuguese detectives. But she claims they branded her a “slut” and laughed and joked in front of her when she gave a statement.
Madeleine McCann was last seen in Praia Da Luz, Algarve (PA)Brueckner denies three rapes and two sexual assaults allegedly carried out in Portugal between 2000 and 2017.
Madeleine was three when she vanished from her parents’ holiday apartment in Praia da Luz while they dined with friends in a tapas bar. Brueckner, who is currently serving a jail term for rape, denies any involvement in her disappearance.
