Vincent Kompany claims Burnley will announce the future of their out-of-contract players next week.

Stalwarts Jack Cork, Jay Rodriguez, Charlie Taylor and Bailey Peacock-Farrell become free agents next month and it is unlikely Kompany will keep them on. Burnley do have the option of extending Johann Berg Gudmunsson’s deal by another 12 months and Kompany says there should be news next week.

“Some decisions you make, some decisions others make,” said the Burnley boss. “Obviously we have a few players out of contract so in that sense, I think hopefully we’ll be able to communicate something together in the next few days.

“I can’t give you much more detail than that, but common sense prevails in any event.”

Burnley have triggered a 12-month extension to Josh Brownhill’s deal and they will be entitled to a transfer fee if he does leave this summer in the wake of relegation.

“We have a player here, who is under contract, who has been very important for us, so rumours, we’re used to rumours,” said Kompany.

Kompany insists he has already processed Burnley’s relegation at Tottenham last weekend ahead of tomorrow’s final game at home to Nottingham Forest. =The Clarets have always adopted a long-term plan and the goal is to win promotion next season.

“I have already dealt with it, it’s done, I get it,” he said. “But I didn’t walk into Burnley when Burnley were a Premier League team, Burnley were a Championship team.

“You only really fail if you fail to learn and that’s not the case for us. We have absolutely learned and there’s no lack of motivation or lack of desire.

“It’s sometimes in human nature to sulk and feel sorry for yourself, but I don’t think it’s in the culture here. It’s not in my nature or in many people here.”
