During Euro 2020, in a chat with talkSPORT, Wembley DJ Tony Parry made the decision to play Sweet Caroline in the win over Germany.

He picked it instead of France 98 hit Vindaloo.

“I was going to play ‘Vindaloo’, but went with my gut,” he said as he decided to play Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond.

“Even the German fans were belting it out in the end. It’s a song that all fans can enjoy.

“The match director said in my in-ear ‘the world’s been closed for 18 months… let ’em have it’.”

What are the lyrics to Sweet Caroline?

Where it began, I can't begin to knowing

But then I know it's growing strong

Was in the spring

All about Rachel Nickell who was murdered in front of her son Alex HanscombeAll about Rachel Nickell who was murdered in front of her son Alex Hanscombe

And spring became the summer

Who'd have believed you'd come along

Hands, touching hands

Reaching out, touching me, touching you

Sweet Caroline

Good times never seemed so good

I've been inclined

To believe they never would

But now I

Look at the night and it don't seem so lonely

We filled it up with only two

And when I hurt

Hurting runs off my shoulders

How can I hurt when holding you

One, touching one

Reaching out, touching me, touching you

Sweet Caroline

Good times never seemed so good

I've been inclined

To believe they never would

Oh no, no

Sweet Caroline

Good times never seemed so good

Sweet Caroline

I believe they never could

Sweet Caroline

Good times never seemed so good
