Kate Garraway revealed she was left in a flood of tears due to the kind support she received from her Good Morning Britain colleagues following her return to work.

The 57-year-old journalist had celebrated her birthday earlier this month, on May 4, and upon returning to the studio on Friday, was elated at the gifts she'd received from her work friends, including from host Susanna Reid. On her first day back, she presented the show alongside pal Rob Rinder and was comfortable with the gifts from her co-stars.

Taking to her Instagram page, an emotional Kate penned: The next are three fabulous total surprises - >>> gorgeous chocolates & flowers from @susannareid100, a basket of goodies from the @gmb gang, a fabulous wrap dress literally left on my doorstep as she "thought I might need cheering up" by my mate @toniabuxton.

She continued: "And the last is the most personal & kind embroidered collar- you know how I love my crazy collars! - from @lisamejuto. Lisa is a makeup artist at @gmb & she’s gorgeous to everyone & fab at her job & we’ve laughed our heads off together over the years.

"But today when she gave me this out of the blue at 4 in the morning I burst into tears. The hard work & effort - carefully hand-sewing symbols that she knows mean so much - including Darcey, Bill & Derek’s initials, shows so much painstaking love. The picture really doesn’t do it justice. Am now lying in bed feeling like the luckiest person in the world to have so many good people around me."

Earlier this month Kate celebrated her first birthday without her husband. She marked the occasion with a garden lunch with pals alongside her two children Darcey, 18, and Billy, 14. The TV star shared snaps from the day on her social media page and said: "Well yesterday was another one of those sad 1st’s - my first birthday since Derek’s passing.

"Woke up feeling so sad & thought well I can either cry all day or celebrate life as he did so well. And thanks to wonderful friends it worked! See you on tomorrow from 6 - happy bank holiday weekend everyone!" Kate had been absent from her presenting duties due to the tragic loss of her dear husband Derek Draper in January following his lengthy battle with coronavirus complications. She was absent twice in March and earlier this month.

Kate has since spoken out about her life and financial situation following Derek's death, revealing that she was left with an 800k debt due to the cost of his care. She said: "Derek's care costs more than my salary from ITV and that is before you pay for a mortgage, before you pay any household bills, before you pay for anything for the kids, so we are at a crunch point.

"I am in debt. I can't earn enough money to cover my debt because I am managing Derek's care and I can't even use the money I do have to support Derek's recovery, because it's going on the basics all the time."
