Reddit left confused over 'birthie stick' gag gift (Image: Amazon)

For most expectant mums wanting to remember the birth of their child is important but, to many, filming the entire event with a selfie stick type device seems like a step too far.

One ‘freaked out’ woman took to Reddit to share a picture of the strange ‘birthie stick’ box that she found on Amazon and said: “I got this ad last week and I’m still processing, just WHY??”, along with a photo of the ‘birthie stick’ box.

The post sent Reddit into a tailspin, with some users thinking it’s ‘hilarious’ while others dubbed the gift ‘disgusting’.

While it isn’t clear if the poster is aware, the product is actually a prank - the box does not contain a ‘birthie stick’ and is, in fact, just an empty box that can be used to put a real present in.

The gag gift, which costs £6 at Amazon, tells mums-to-be they can ‘share the magical event of the birth with the world’ by recording high quality video which friends and family can tune in and watch.

Reddit users were quick to share their thoughts on the gift, with one commenting: “It’s just a box with the depiction of an outrageous product that you give someone as a gag, with the real gift inside. There are all kinds of these boxes.”

While a second added: “I wouldn’t be surprised if these are real. Some “influencers” are outta control”.

And a third unimpressed user said: “Because this is what society is transforming into”.

Another user shared that while the concept is a joke, they have actually seen people sharing their birth videos at work.
