One of the most iconic sex symbols of all time, Elvis Presley sent fans wild with his onstage gyrations.

But behind the bedroom doors of Graceland, it was a different story entirely for 'Elvis the Pelvis', who reportedly felt repulsed by the idea of penetrative sex.

The rock and roll legend, who died tragically young in 1977 at the age of 42, had plenty of girlfriends, but it's unclear how many of them he actually had sexual intercourse with. Two of Elvis' lovers, Judy Spreckels and June Juanico, claim never to have slept with the Burning Love singer, while his ex-wife Priscilla Presley later shed light on their intriguing bedroom antics in her 1985 memoir Elvis and Me.

In her book, which would go on to inspire the 2023 Sofia Coppola biopic, Priscilla, she revealed that her husband was adamant she remained a virgin until their wedding day. He was however willing for them to do 'everything but' penetrative sex before reaching the altar. Priscilla recalled: "Elvis would take me into his bedroom and then we would kiss long, deep, passionate kisses and his caresses would leave me weak with desire."

It's believed this restraint could have been a precautionary measure on Elvis' part to avoid unplanned pregnancy as his stardom continued to rise. But there was another reason Elvis apparently had a few hang-ups when it came to sex, and it all dates back to his time in the army...

Author Albert Goldman suggested in his book, Elvis, that the star developed severe anxieties over sexually transmitted diseases after encountering sex workers during his military service in Germany. Although penetration was a tricky topic, Elvis certainly had a few tricks between the sheets - with his purported talents for oral sex earning him the nickname 'the King of Foreplay'.

In her eye-opening autobiography, Priscilla revealed: "He worked his art of foreplay without penetration. In lovemaking, as in entertaining, Elvis' outstanding talent was oral." Lamar Fike, a member of Elvis' entourage from 1957, also claimed "His sexual appetite was very, very strong. The touching and the feeling and the patting and everything else meant more to Elvis than the actual act. I guess Elvis was the King of Foreplay."

In her 2000 autobiography, beauty queen Cybill Shepherd took credit for schooling Elvis on all things oral. Cybill, who dated Elvis briefly in the early '70s, alleged: "I had to teach him how to do it. There are worse things to teach a man to do!"

However, there are those who've cast doubt on this narrative. In an interview with The Guardian, one of the King's former lovers, who asked to remain anonymous, admitted they'd 'laughed' at this particular claim. They continued: "'Oh, yeah, honey, I've never done anything like that before. You want to show me that one more time?'. She's a real nice lady but I don't know that Elvis had much left to learn by then. By that time it was just a shuttle - one came in the door as another was flown back to Vegas."

Ultimately, Elvis' sexual preferences contributed to the collapse of his marriage to Priscilla, who says he was no longer interested in being intimate with her following the birth of their daughter Lisa-Marie. In her book, Priscilla alleged that her rockstar husband, who she says had a preoccupation with virgins, told her he'd 'never been able to make love to a woman who had a child'.

Explaining that Elvis had a 'hard time' seeing her as anything other than a mother, Priscilla wrote: "[was] beginning to doubt my own sexuality as a woman. My physical and emotional needs were unfulfilled."
