Mourners gathered for a final farewell to Aalim Makail - the five-year-old boy who died after falling 150ft from a block of flats.

Family and friends attended his funeral service at his family’s mosque before he was buried in its peace garden. The ceremony came two days after the tragedy, which happened when the youngster, described as a “beautiful, happy and caring child”, fell from one of the upper floors of 15-storey Jacobs House in Plaistow, east London.

Heartbroken witnesses described seeing the youngster’s father crying over him and shouting: “My boy, my boy.”

There have been concerns raised over the safety of windows at the block. The lad’s aunt Maryan Hadafow said his mum had raised concerns several times with the council. She said: “His mother has complained to Newham Council about that window. She sent five emails about how they open, and said they were not safe for her kids, but no one did anything.”

Police are not treating his death as suspicious, but Newham Council says it is “undertaking a full investigation”.

A Newham Council said: “The Council is continuing to establish the facts regarding this tragic incident, until we have further information we’re unable to make any further comment. Our priority is to support the family at this devastating time.”

The Building Safety Regulator, part of the Health and Safety Executive, said: “We are engaging with the appropriate agencies to understand the facts.”

The Metropolitan Police said a file would be prepared for the coroner. Mosque leaders at Masjid Ibrahim Plaistow set up a fundraising page, which last night reached more than £7,500, to support his “inconsolable” family and help pay for the funeral service. They said: “We are devastated for the family and wanted to show our support at this incredibly difficult time.”
