One phone call from the outgoing Jurgen Klopp was all it took to convince Mo Salah to join Liverpool, the Egyptian has claimed.

The forward joined the Reds from Italian giants Roma in 2017 for £34m. He has proven to be one of the best signings in the club’s history having netted over 200 goals and helped the side to a number of trophies.

Liverpool boss Klopp played a huge role in tempting Salah to Anfield seven years ago. He has explained that the German’s convincing personality influenced him to move to Merseyside after just one phone call.

Salah had a simple response to Klopp’s speech: “Ok, I’m going to come…” Speaking ahead of the Klopp’s final game in charge against Wolves, Salah explained: "I think at first in the first call we had, the thing that stuck in my mind was him explaining to me he wanted me to come here.

"And he basically explained to me that he was building a new team at the club and Sadio [Mane] and Bobby [Firmino] are there and he wanted me to play in the side. My football, he said: 'I am going to improve your football and give you the freedom to do what you want.' And then I was like OK, I am going to come. I came and then the rest, you can see.

"We are here for seven or eight years together so there are too many moments [to choose] but I think winning the Premier League in that game, when Chelsea beat Man City and also winning the Champions League is a thing that sticks in my mind because there are too many emotions involved."

Klopp and Salah have struck up an extremely profitable relationship since his move to Liverpool - the Egyptian proving a key part of the German’s side. Things threatened to get slightly rocky earlier this season though.

The pair were spotted having an animated argument during a draw against West Ham at the London Stadium. The argument occurred as Salah prepared to be introduced as a substitute.

Klopp insisted that there was no long-term issue with his forward despite the Egyptian claiming there would be “fire" if he spoke to the media. Either way, Salah looks set to end the season as Liverpool’s top scorer once again.

He had 25 goals to his name ahead of Sunday’s finale against Wolves at Anfield - Klopp’s final game. While the manager is set to leave, Salah also faces a slightly uncertain future.

He has just a year remaining on his contract at Anfield and has constantly been linked with a big-money move to Saudi Arabia.
