Scottie Scheffler's arraignment has been delayed until June 3 due to a schedule conflict for his attorney, Steve Romines, per ESPN.

Originally, a court date was scheduled for 9 a.m. on May 21, though that has now been moved to early June. Scheffler was booked on four charges : Second Degree of (a) Police officer, Criminal MIschief 3rd degree, Reckless driving and Disregard(ing) signals from officer directing traffic.

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, Scheffler was given instructions by Detective Bryan Gillis as the scene was under investigation due to a pedestrian fatality. Gillis alleges Scheffler instead drove off in the SUV, dragging him along the ground, causing injuries to his left wrist and knee.

The police department added that Gillis failed to activate his bodycam during the incident. Prior to Scheffler's incident with Gillis, the police department was investigating the unrelated pedestrian death of John Mills, who had been struck by a shuttle bus just after 5 a.m. local.

As officers investigated the accident, traffic was stopped. Scheffler attempted to get to the golf course when the incident between him and Gillis occurred, which Romines called a "misunderstanding." Regardless, Scheffler and Romines already outlined their plans for when the star golfer appears in court.

"We are going to plead not guilty and get the next court date. Could the charges be dropped? Anything is possible," Romines said shortly after the incident. "They will either be dropped or we will go to trial because he didn't do anything wrong.

"We're not interested in any settlement negotiations or anything like that. He didn't do anything wrong. It was just a big miscommunication. it was kind of a perfect storm of circumstances. The fatality was just down the road. And one thing has to be made clear - he didn't drive through any accident scene."

Romines added more details on what happened between Scheffler and Gillis, with Romines believing the officer was not given an update on how golfers at Valhalla were supposed to approach the situation and where to go in light of Mills' death.

"Scottie was advised to go around and turn left into the facility," Romines continued. "The officer who charged him obviously didn't know that. He did what he was instructed to do and the officer who arrested him didn't think he should be doing that. That is where the miscommunication occurred."

After the incident, Scheffler took to Instagram to share what happened from his point of view. "This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers," he wrote on his account.

"It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do. I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I'm hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today."

Once he was able to get back on the course, Scheffler posted his worst round in 266 days, posting a 2-over 73. He finished the PGA Championship in a four-way tie for eighth at 13 under.
