The dust is settling on another Premier League campaign that saw Arsenal come up short.

Despite winning on the final day the Gunners were second best to Manchester City once again, with Mikel Arteta adamant he will eventually lead the north Londoners to top flight glory. Attention will now turn to next season as Arsenal prepare themselves for another title tilt.

They improved their points tally from last year but need to overhaul Pep Guardiola's juggernaut if they are to get the job done. Recruitment will again be key with the Emirates hierarchy happy to back Arteta and already potential signings have been identified.

Here's the latest from Arsenal.

Brobbey top of the wishlist

Ajax striker Brian Brobbey is reportedly a summer transfer target for the Gunners, who are planning to make early moves in the upcoming window. No signings were made in January and adding a striker is top of the agenda.

The Independent has outlined that Alexander Isak and Brobbey are two of the names Arsenal are monitoring this summer. Isak has been in red-hot form for Newcastle, while Brobbey produced 22 goals in 42 games for Ajax. Mirror Football has already explained that Isak, who the Gunners eyed before he joined Newcastle, is unlikely to join the club this summer given the Magpies do not want to sell.

It's claimed that Brobbey, 22, is therefore likely to be the Gunners' next top target in the wake of his remarkable form for Ajax.

Rodri fires shot at second-place Arsenal

Rodri has suggested that Arsenal lacked the mentality to win the title after he and City landed their fourth title in a row. City finished with 91 points - just two more than Arsenal. Rodri believes their negative approach in the 0-0 draw at the Etihad back in March is what ultimately ended up costing them the league.

Speaking after the West Ham win, Rodri told Optus Sport: “It’s the mentality. Great players are all over the leagues, all over the clubs. Arsenal also, they did an unbelievable season.

“But I think the difference was in [the head]. When they came here, when they faced us at the Etihad, I saw, these guys do not want to beat us. They just want to draw. And that mentality, we would not do the same way. And we caught it.

Timber reflects on return

Jurrien Timber made a return to first-team action against Everton, coming on as a 69th minute sub after getting injured on the opening day as he made his debut. Arsenal landed the defender's signing in the summer, but hardly got the chance to see him on the pitch amid a lengthy rehab process.

He said on his return: “I felt good after so many months of hard work, but on the other hand, we didn’t become champions today and that's sad. It's a hard one to take."

Timber also added: “Obviously I was injured, so that's hard but it was nice to be so close to the team, to get to know my teammates. Just to see them play every weekend, it's just a pleasure to watch. It's the same for you guys and for me, it was the same. Just to see everything up close was a privilege, so I enjoyed that."
