House-hunters say they feel 'unsettled' by the house's bizarre bathroom

House-hunters have been left feeling "unsettled" by one particular room of a new property listing they reckon looks completely out of place.

Taking to Reddit's Spotted on Rightmove subreddit, one user highlighted the house's "really weird" bathroom featuring a purple toilet, a sink and a jacuzzi bath. It couldn't look more different from the rest of the listing, which was decorated more simply with white and muted tones.

Captioning the post "nothing rhymes with purple", the user added: "Just remember, at some point someone had this installed and thought 'Cor, that looks absolutely fantastic.'" The five-bedroom bungalow, located near York, is on the market for offers in the region of £695,000 and is set on an impressive 1.5 acre plot.

"The juxtaposition between the purple bathtub and toilet and the bare grey walls and carpet is really unsettling," one user penned in response. "Like, if you're gonna be garish then at least go all the way."

Another agreed: "I thought that too. I wonder if it’s been painted and recarpeted in the hope that removing the personality will make it more sellable. The loo cistern has a massive white splodge on it that suggests a hasty paint job and there is an odd bit of purple coming through on the work surface."

A third added: "I was so perplexed by the purple facilities that I didn't even notice that the whole room is carpeted. This is some horror s**t."

And a fourth wrote: "This is a double decor crime right here. Not only are they committing the ultimate sin of having a carpeted bathroom (mold and humidity galore!) but it's one hell of a colour scheme clash too. The sink looks like it was converted from a desk so I can imagine this used to just be someone's office until, I assume, they had some kind of mid-life crisis."

Estate Agent Ashtons says of the property: "The property offers large 5 bedroom accommodation as a true bungalow, which obviously leaves scope for the possible development of the large roof void for further accommodation should this be required.

The property also benefits from a fantastic semi-rural location with magnificent open westerly facing views across open countryside to the rear, yet less than a mile from the well served village of Copmanthorpe and a little over 4 miles to the city centre itself."

Despite hundreds of negative comments, a handful of Reddit users claimed they liked the design. "I actually like the purple bathroom suite," one explained. "But I do love purple. Hate the carpet though, carpet in a bathroom is so yucky."

A second replied: "Agree. I would never BUY a purple bathroom suite, but I sure wouldn't rip it out either. That carpet, however, would have to go."
