Harry Kane will be fully fit for the Euros - and will be fired up to win silverware.
England captain Kane, 30, missed the last two games of Bayern Munich ’s season with a back injury which, according to his club manager Thomas Tuchel, was causing him a “blockade of pain.” It capped an unhappy finish to the campaign for Kane who finished empty-handed as Bayern failed to win any silverware and any fitness worries for England’s record goalscorer would be a huge concern.
But Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate insisted Kane will be fully fit - and also raring to go with a renewed hunger after scoring 44 goals in all competitions but now eyeing a first trophy of his career with England. Southgate said: “He is quite relaxed about it. I think a sensible decision was taken not to push for the last game there, but our understanding of it is that it is something that is pretty much clear now.
"Something like that can happen at any given moment as we all know. Back problems can just happen, travel, whatever else but it is not something we are concerned about at this moment in time.
"He will of course be disappointed that he hasn’t won the league but there has been a lot going on at the football club which has been obvious from the outside. But he has delivered what we thought he would deliver in terms of goals in that league and I know the club are super happy with what he has done.
Rule that could see Saka and Kane miss derby with a booking - but not a red card“On a personal level it won't be nice for him (not to win a trophy) and I am sure he will be aware of what people will say about that. But his love for this challenge and desire to make this work has never wavered and he is definitely looking forward to this tournament coming up.”
Southgate also called up four Crystal Palace players - and admitted he wanted to make it five. Palace midfielder Adam Wharton was a surprise first call-up for the 33 man training squad alongside team mates Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze and Dean Henderson.
That is a huge tribute to the difference new Palace boss Oliver Glasner has made as they have finished the season in great form. But Southgate, a huge Palace favourite himself from his time as a player, also said they have been interested in Michael Olise who was born in London but has represented France at under-21 level.
Olise, 22, could still switch allegiances after failing to make the France squad for the Euros but there was not enough time before this summer. England boss Southgate said: “He would have to have a transfer of association. That process would take quite a while. He is obviously a very good player, he hasn't made their squad, they might be taking him to the Olympics, I don't know.
“He is a player we should have an interest in because he is a very good player but there is no way you could do all of that in time for the Euros. It has been an incredible rise for Adam Wharton, if you look at him and Kobbie Mainoo five or six months ago I don't think any of us would think we would be talking in this way.
“But this is a little bit of a reflection of the strength of depth in that area of the pitch but also that the two boys have played well. Good technician, Adam can handle the ball really well, he has got a calmness about him that I really like. I think the system he plays in and the role he plays, Palace have found a system that really suits him with a back three behind.
“There are bits we need to find out about that. It also suits Eze and Olise because there are in off the wings not having to defend so far back. He is ina good moment, he is confident and we are keen to find out more about him.”
