Last summer's Met Office data revealed a whopping 33 days of unadulterated sunshine from June to August, yet a recent survey of 2,000 adults indicates that 62% feel the pressure to utilise the extended daylight, with six in 10 at a loss on how to spend it.
Consequently, 60% believe they're squandering their summers, either falling into routine habits (39%) or failing to plan effectively (29%). To combat this, Zipcar UK, who commissioned the study, has teamed up with the creative duo from TOPJAW, Jesse and Will, to launch an online 'Summer Selector' tool aimed at sparking a season filled with excitement.
The dynamic pair commented: "During the warmer months with the extended days we have calculated the average Brit has 58,000 minutes of spare daylight time to make the most of. However, many don't feel like they are maximising their summer days and the met office figures show sunshine is limited."
"But we want to encourage the nation to get out and about this summer whether it's visiting your local park, spontaneously driving out to the beach for the day, or even treating your family to a meal out at a top restaurant."
Moreover, the research uncovered that 41% of people adopt an "I'll do it tomorrow" mindset, not making the most of the longer days, while 39% cited poor weather as a barrier to their summertime activities.

Shockingly, 15% confessed they haven't felt like they've fully enjoyed a summer in over five years. Consequently, 48% turn to family and friends for ideas on how to spend their summer days, while others look to websites (34%), TV programmes (23%), and social media (30%).
Interestingly, 31% admitted that scrolling through social networks makes them feel anxious if they aren't making the most of the June to August season.
While 54% wished they were more spontaneous with their summer plans, half of those surveyed, via OnePoll, struggle to find impromptu activities when on a budget. Despite 49% having to reconsider their summer plans due to increasing costs, 27% plan to spend more this summer than they did last.
The study also revealed that the average adult plans to spend £77 each week on activities to entertain themselves during longer days, and £72 on dining out.
A spokesperson for Zipcar UK commented: "Our study has shown how people want to make the most of every second, but also not break the bank. Making decisions or just knowing what there is to do can be tricky, which is why we launched our 'Summer Selector' to help Brits make the most of their summer this year and we want to help make these decisions easy for people."
"It's important to us that we support the nation is in maximising their summer experience as we understand how finite each moment can be with the unpredictable weather."
