The grieving mother of a teenager who died after accidentally shooting himself has described the agonising moment she found him and her desperate effort to save his life.

The tragic death of Raleigh Freeman III, who was a rapper known by his stage name 'Rylo Huncho', was captured in a horrifying video that was viewed by thousands on social media. The 17-year-old was found dead at his home in Suffolk, Virginia, on May 16.

The heart-wrenching video that circulated online showed him singing into the camera while holding a gun and waving around the barrel, apparently switching off the safety. He then puts the weapon to his head and pulls the trigger just before the video cuts off.

I ran across the street, and I almost got hit by a car for going across the street trying to save my son's life. I didn't know he had a gun. I did not know he had that. I just want my baby back. Savage added that her son had a passion for music. She said of Raleigh: "He had some nice music on YouTube. He got some nice songs. He rap real good."

The family announced that Raleigh will be laid to rest on Friday, opting to keep the details of his funeral private.

Initially, it was claimed that the video circulating the web was fake with some speculating about how the footage was posted if the rapper was already dead, but it appears the footage was filmed on a live stream.

A GoFundMe page was later created by the teen's heartbroken family. According to the fundraiser, Raleigh was his mother's only child and she took care of him "the best she could."

A cousin of the rapper wrote on the fundraiser: "Hello, my aunt recently lost her 17-year-old son from a self-inflicted gun wound to the head. He was her only son! She was a single parent but took care of her son the best she could. Suicide/accidental was the cause of his death we are still trying to figure out why.

"But anything I mean anything can help her at this time of need. He was her only child she was also an only child it was always her and her son. Anything can help! Please keep my family in your prayers thank you so much."
