Bayer Leverkusen star Jonathan Tah is keen on a move to Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich and the potential transfer could come as a major boost for Liverpool.

New Bayern boss Vincent Kompany is keen to strengthen his squad this summer after they failed to win the league for the first time since 2012. Defensive reinforcements are high on his agenda and they have already signed Hiroki Ito from Stuttgart and made Eric Dier's loan move permanent.

According to Sky Germany, Tah wants to join Bayern and is ready to put pen to paper on a five-year deal. However, Leverkusen are said to have 'immense transfer fee demands' and talks between the two clubs are in the early stages.

Tah's current contract is due to expire next year, though, meaning Leverkusen may be forced to cash in this summer. Should the deal be completed, Bayern may look to strengthen in other positions.

And that would be a boost for Liverpool and new boss Arne Slot, with Reds defender Joe Gomez also on Bayern's radar. Mirror Football understands that Kompany is a fan of Gomez's versatility, with the 27-year-old making 51 appearances last season in his strongest campaign yet.

Liverpool do not want to lose Gomez and view the England international as a hugely important player for Slot. Gomez featured at centre-back, right-back, left-back and holding midfield last season and enjoys playing different roles for the Reds.

"I;ve obviously said before I'm a centre-half [but] I think this season has taught me I just want to enjoy playing football, I don't necessarily need to box myself in," Gomez told the Anfield Wrap. "Obviously I still feel like I can contribute well at centre-half, but I've definitely enjoyed my football.

"For me, that comes first. Just trying to help the team. I definitely wouldn't say, 'No, gaffer, I don't want to play another position'. The main thing is just giving your all for the badge. And wherever that is, I'm definitely in a phase of my career where I'm more accepting to whatever that may be, I'm not as young and hard-headed about 'I need to play centre-half'.

"A lot of it is your mindset and the way you approach the game. Me approaching it this year with a more open mind and just trying to do my best for the team and contribute however possible.

"Because there has been a lot of change, the positions have not been standard at times and there has been alterations tactically – and that's just the way the game is heading, but in a way I have enjoyed that challenge. It keeps it fresh, it keeps it exciting."
