AMAZON has dropped the cost of a big telly from a big-name brand by 25%.

Shoppers are going wild for the 65-inch set from Samsung's 4K AU7020 range, which has been reduced from £559 to £448.

Picking up a 65-inch smart TV for less than £500 is still a bit of a rarity - especially one from the biggest-selling brand on the UK market.

This is a fairly modest set in terms of specs and features - you can expect to pay in the four figures for Samsung's top-end Neo QLEDs of the same size.

'Big and basic' is what I'm calling the AU7020: a great shout for TV-buyers who have enough viewing space to accommodate a beast like this, but are spending on a restrained budget.

I've checked and I can confirm that at the time of writing (4pm Monday 17th June), this TV will arrive in time for the England v Denmark football game on Thursday. Just saying.

By contrast, the 55-inch set in the same range costs just £369 - if you're not sure which is the smarter purchase, read my colleague Danni Scott's what size TV to buy explainer.

Despite the budget-end price tag, this still has all the hallmarks of quality and class you'd expect from a market-leader like Samsung.

The Crystal 4K processor, which you'll find across most of the brand's entry-level tellies, can automatically finetune and upscale any non-4K content you're watching.

Sound, similarly, gets automatically tweaked depending on whatever you're watching: the TV can detect, for example, if you're watching sports and will make it sound extra-immersive.

Smart streaming from Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and the like comes from Samsung's Tizen platform, which is hugely respected across the TV industry for its smoothness and intuitiveness.

And, yep, it's compatible with Alexa, meaning you can change channels with voice control, and operate other smart tech you've got synced to the same ecosystem (think Echo Dots, Ring Doorbells and Blink cameras).

Reviews on the Amazon site for this epic-size television are overwhelming positive, with an average rating of 4.5 out of 5.

One shopper writes: 'Everything is great. The TV is super-massive, crisp screen, great sound quality (we also got the Soundbar T420), and [it] arrived on time. Thank you.'

'Brilliant TV,' writes another customer. 'Bargain at this price. Picture, sound, ease of use really good. Cannot fault it... Quality.'

If you're open to other (and cheaper) ways of improving your home entertainment ahead of the sport-filled summer, Amazon has also slashed the cost of a mini projector from £220 to £160.
