Fruit flies can enter your home via produce, such as groceries, and are attracted to fermenting food and drinks.

They are especially problematic in the summer, when hot weather causes fruit to decompose quickly.

Babs Costello, better known as @brunchwithbabs, took to TikTok to share her top tips for getting rid of the tiny creatures.

The grandmother revealed that the secret ingredient to keeping your home and bug free "all summer long" is cinnamon.

She explained: "Cinnamon naturally contains eugenol, an aromatic compound commonly found in traditional insect repellants."

Cinnamon is super cheap, and you can pick it up from Aldi for 79p.

Babs revealed that to keep fruit flies out of your fruit bowl, you can simply place some cinnamon sticks in with the fruit.

She added that to keep the flies out of your bin, you can pour a sprinkle of cinnamon inside and around the lid.

This will also make your home smell amazing, as cinnamon has a strong sweet scent.

And that's not all, Babs, also revealed that you can use the spice to keep mosquitoes away.

To make her "magic bug spray" Babs mixed two teaspoons of cinnamon with one litre of water.

She then leaves the mixture for a few hours to steep, before straining it to ensure the cinnamon doesn't clog up your spray bottle.

Next, she pours the mixture into an old spray bottle, and adds a splash of washing-up liquid and rubbing alcohol.

When the mixture is complete, you can spray it around your garden or on your body, to deter bugs.
