Most Brits know a jacket potato is an elite meal - but how long is reasonable to travel to try one for the first time?

You might not think there's anything fancy about a humble jacket potato, but two siblings nicknamed the Spud Brothers have gone viral over the world with their tasty baked spuds.

Jacob, 28, and Harley Nelson 21, have seen customers queuing for hours to taste their jacket potatoes - and recently one customer revealed she travelled for 24 hours to get one. The siblings, whose username is @TheSpudBrothers, always give the first customer of the day a free baked potato - and were shocked when they found out the lengths a recent fan had gone to.

Having queued up to get to the front of the Hot Potato Tram, which is located in Preston, Lancashire, when it opened, the woman, from Melbourne, Australia, told Jake she wanted a jacket potato with cheese, beans, garlic butter and "a bit of sour cream".

She explained the Hot Potato Tram, which the brothers purchased in 2023 from the previous owners, had been "all over" her TikTok and she has finally come to the UK so she can visit. "You've not just come to the UK just for this?" Jake laughed. "It's crazy if you have and thank you so much," he added.

He also asked how long it had taken her to get to the UK, and she replied: "It's about 23-24 hours." Jake replied: "That is definitely the longest time [someone has travelled]. 23 hours just for a jacket potato."

The woman, who didn't reveal her name, added: "It better live up to my expectations," to which Jake replied: "I hope it does."

While topping up the crispy jacket potato with crispy onions, the woman explained they don't have baked beans in Australia - and after giving it a taste she confirmed they were delicious. However, fellow Aussies in the comment section cleared up they do in fact have baked beans.

"We literally have these beans in Australia," one person shared. "We have Heinz beans in Melbourne," another added.

After going viral on TikTok people have travelled from all over the world to get their hands on a spud. "As a fellow Aussie, I have never craved anything more than one of these," commented one person. Another added: "I am watching from Kuwait from the Middle East & oh my if i came to the UK anytime soon I’m absolutely eating your jacket potatoes!"

And the Spud Bros aren't the only ones to have success with jacket potatoes on the video sharing platform. Rival vendor Ben Newman, also known as Spud Man, became a viral sensation - and has seen similar success.

People have come from as far away as the US and Malaysia to visit his potato van in Tamworth, Staffordshire. The 39-year-old sells thousands of jacket potatoes a day, and has amassed a following of 3.5million on TikTok.
