Foodies expressed their delight after learning bakery chain Greggs has been busy opening a number of drive-thrus to add it to its 2,450 regular stores across the UK.

In a post shared to Reddit, one hungry Brit shared his excitement after stumbling across one of 15 drive-thrus at Sheffield's Meadowhall shopping centre. Unbeknown to the poster, the first Greggs drive-thru actually opened in Irlam, Greater Manchester way back in 2017.

Since then a further 14 have sprung up in every corner of the country. "Did everybody know Greggs were in the drive-thru game?" he asked in the CasualUK subreddit. "More companies need to join the party!"

While some people on Reddit were aware of the company's drive-thrus already, others were surprised to learn of their existence. One Reddit user expressed in delight: "There's meant to be one going up near my work soon, hopefully it'll be open 24 hours so I can pop down and get a bacon roll on my break!"

A second penned: "I used to work nights a good few years ago and I got breakfast (tea) at the Irlam drive thru more times than I care to remember."

And a third admitted "I'm not surprised. I have a brother working at McDonald's and Greggs is literally the only place in the country that touches them. Their breakfast even outsells old Ronald in many areas."

According to Greggs, a spokesperson said: "Yep you heard us right, our drive-thru shops have been popping up around the country for the past few years (the first in Irlam, Manchester) and there’s no sign of us 'putting the brakes on' any time soon. As with all our shops, you can expect deliciously golden bakes, freshly made sandwiches, Fairtrade coffee and tasty sweet treats… as well as service with a smile (of course!).

"But unlike other Greggs shops, you can stay in the comfort of your own car and make your order at our snazzy order point, before driving round to the collection window where your flakey faves will be ready and waiting for you."
