Big cat mystery 'finally solved' as 'leopard' confirmed roaming UK countryside

For years there have been talks of the presence of a big, elusive cat in the UK.

Encounters have included run-ins on country roads or mysterious unexplained animal deaths. Disarray provoked in parks and fearful walkers due to these sightings have led to assumptions of the 'yeti' wandering the UK countryside. Reports of an evasive big cat lurking around had been shrugged off as speculation amongst a section of ramblers and wildlife aficionados for ages.

Now, however, the mystery has been resolved following confirmation based on a sample secured from the Lake District establishing the existence of a huge feline in our countryside.

The cat in the 'Panthera' genus, most likely a leopard, has been positively ID'd after a swab was taken from a dead sheep in the Cumbrian beauty spot. A passerby has mentioned observing something making hasty strides away from the mauled sheep prior to turning it in for analysis.

This is the first time where definitive considerable cat DNA has been identified on any carcass in the UK. Professor Robin Allaby of the University of Warwick affirmed to BBC Wildlife that this revelation converted him into a believer of the big cat theory, reports the Express.

He stated: "It makes me a convert. Until now, I have remained open-minded, I think that's my job as a scientist."
