TROUBLED Olympic cycling star Sir Bradley Wiggins was living in a VW camper van which was later found “trashed” in a car park.

Sources close to the Tour de France winner said he was loaned the posh motor in return for social media posts about it.

But after failing to post anything, he was accused of dumping it, with the owners claiming they had to use an electronic tracker to find it.

They say the camper had been parked on a farm and was later recovered “full of rubbish” in a car park.

The star was once reportedly worth £13million. But he has now been declared bankrupt, his home has been repossessed and he has debts of around £1million.

He is said to be sofa-surfing at friends’ homes.

A source added: “Bradley’s bankruptcy has made sense of the chaos of last year when he went Awol with a loaned VW camper van. It was in a car park in Manchester for around 40 days.

“He left it unlocked with the back door open. When it was recovered the company said it was in a state.”

Friends told The Sun how Sir Bradley had been loaned the upmarket vehicle last August.

Our source added: “No one knew what was happening and why he wasn’t making his end of the deal. They think Bradley might have been sleeping in the van because he moved it a couple of times.”

It is believed Sir Bradley’s money woes started during lockdown in 2020 after he split from wife Cath.

The five-times Olympic gold medal winner has sold the majority of his medals and cycling gear.

His lawyer Alan Sellers said: “It is a total mess. He’s lost absolutely everything. His home, his home in Majorca, his savings and investments.”
