Michael Chandler has shown his class by wishing Conor McGregor well after their UFC mega-fight was cancelled.

McGregor was scheduled to make his highly-anticipated UFC return against Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29 but an injury forced him out of the fight. Chandler has been pulled from the event entirely and will now have to wait even longer to fight McGregor, who hasn't fought since breaking his leg almost three years ago.

Chandler responded to McGregor's official statement about his injury by writing: “No hard feelings. Heal up. My heart is full. See you soon.” The former Bellator MMA world champion went on to add: I’m here, just as in 2009 when I started. The most reliable man in MMA. See you when I see you.”

McGregor's injury is undisclosed but his fight against Chandler is expected to be rescheduled for either August or September. Chandler has been waiting for his chance to face McGregor since being tapped out by Dustin Poirier over 18 months ago and he reflected on the mega-fight being cancelled whilst taking a walk through a forest.

“On the trail right now getting my mind right. Thinking about what has transpired over the last couple of days, obviously, you guys saw that I got the road pulled out from underneath me at the last possible moment. I got the call about an hour after my last sparring session was complete and the celebration," Chandler said.

"The happiest, healthiest and most dangerous man I have been in my life to 30 minutes later getting a phone call that all of that was for not. So what do I do now? There is a bit of uncertainty if this fight is going to happen, there is no guarantees but I thrive when there is no guarantees."

McGregor's ill-fated UFC 303 fight was set to break a record for the highest-selling gate in promotional history. UFC boss Dana White claimed the gate was set to be "way over $20 million" but that number will now significantly decline as fans who bought tickets are eligible for a refund because of McGregor's withdrawal.
