A HUGE US rock band upgraded ticket-holders to fill an empty arena after poor ticket sales.

The top tier of London's O2 Arena was closed off for Thirty Second To Mars' gig earlier this month and the standing area front of stage was sparsely populated.

The American rock band was formed by brothers Jared and Shannon Leto.

Some of their popular songs are The Kill, Kings and Queens, and Closer to the Edge.

Their recent concert at the 02 Arena was described as "the quietest" it had ever been.

One user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: "There was a 30 Seconds to Mars gig next to where I work and it’s the quietest I’ve ever seen the O2 ever."

Another added: "30 seconds to mars literally offered everyone from their Nottingham gig a free ticket for London and still didn't even fill half of it."

One user sharing a snap showcasing the emptiness of the arena wrote: "This was standing, they closed off the entire top venue too."

The general admission area had quite a few fans, but the large golden circle at the front was less than a third full, and the top tier was closed.

Arena staff and Jared himself urged fans to collect wristbands to move closer to the front.

Music journalist Michael Hann wrote for the Guardian: "... visitors to the toilet during the show are accosted by arena staff trying to persuade them to take wristbands to go to the front.

"Thirty Seconds to Mars singer Jared Leto even appeals before the encore for people to go in search of wristbands to come and join the little throng at the front of the stage."

However, a source close to the band denied this was the case.

Earlier this year, the band was forced to cancel their Scottish show.

They were due to play at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow on April 16 but the band announced they were having to reschedule the European dates of their Seasons World tour.

In an Instagram post, they said: "Due to the actor's strike and subsequent changes to Jared's filming schedule, some of the EU/UK dates of our Seasons World Tour have been rescheduled.

"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

"We can't wait to see you all on the road very soon.

"This tour is a celebration of our family of friends and fans around the world - whether you discovered us in 2000s dorm rooms, 2010s emo nights or on TikTok today - we plan on honouring that by dipping deep into our past and playing songs we haven't played in many many years and from all the different SEASONS OF MARS!

"All EU/UK tickets purchased will be honoured.

"Thank you for your understanding, we will see you on the road."
