James Corden and Ruth Jones previously announced that after much speculation, the hit BBC sitcom will return for one last instalment.

Whilst Rob, 59, is excited to return to his long-running alter-ego, there is one matter which he hopes the writers will not address.

The infamous sitcom was written by the comedy pairing and it became a smash hit after its debut in 2007.

One long-running joke in the series features Rob's naive and endearing character refer to the infamous fishing trip.

This was with his nephew Jason (played by Rob Wilfort) as both characters continue to refuse to reveal any details about their excursion.

A mystery event made them both uncomfortable, but just when the audience could find out what happened, an action prevents the reveal.

Ahead of the highly-anticipated special, the actor thinks that the secrets from the getaway should remain a secret.

He also claimed that if they were to reveal what happened, it would be a "mistake."

"I hope we don’t find out about the fishing trip. That would be a mistake," Rob declared to The Metro.

He added: "They should keep the mystery. You must never resolve that. That’s the thing. It is the not knowing."

However, the actor is excited to reunite with his longtime co-stars like Mathew Horne and Joanna Page.

And he has high hopes for the upcoming edition, which will be the last

He told the outlet: "I just hope that – and I know they will – they’ll give me some of the juicy things to do

The actor opened up whilst promoting his new project, My Lady Jane at the Hotel Cafe Royal.

In the new Prime Video show, he plays the scheming Lord Dudley in the comedy re-imagining of the Tudor period.

Rob couldn't help but compare his new regal role to the fan-favourite kind sitcom role.

He admitted: "Well, the big thing with Uncle Bryn is I feel so comfortable and relaxed playing him because it’s so much the rhythms and the music of my childhood and growing up in Wales.

"They sort of wrote it with me in mind so I find it very easy, This chap [Lord Dudley] was a little more likely to be charming, so you try and find the part of yourself that you can bring into it and mould so it was perhaps not quite as comfortable and easy as Bryn but it was it was within my sort of wheelhouse."

He added: "It was a chance to potentially play a few new notes. I’m usually just the nice guy, so this was appealing."

Ruth and James previously shared the news of the final ever episode on social media back in May.

The duo posed for a black and white snap with the script emblazoned with the show's title that covered their of their faces.

However, the front cover revealed the show will be called "Gavin and Stacey: the finale", making it the last ever episode.
